Being a person who is not very technologically inclined, I was not initially thrilled with the lack of pen and paper used in EDC 102 H. However, as I was introduced to more and more different programs, I started actually getting the hang of things. I created my very own Personal Knowledge Base. Little did I know how useful it would become! Now, I simply cannot imagine this class without using Evernote, Zotero, Evernote Web Clipper, mindmaps, and so many more.

My personal favorite program easily became Evernote. Evernote is essentially an online notebook. It is a downloadable program where you can create individual notebooks, organize notes you take, and never pick up a pen again! I enjoyed this eco-friendly aspect to Evernote and I did not have to carry another notebook in my backpack. Almost every day, we have in class discussions on readings or simply events going on in education today. Every time we started talking, it was so easy to pull up my EDC 102 notebook and start writing down bullet points. Evernote also has an "Evernote Web Clipper" in which you can easily "clip" articles, videos, photos, or anything you wish into your Evernote. This is so convenient when you want to keep an article for future reference or see something interesting you would like to keep.

As I started to grow more and more comfortable with Evernote, I began using it for other things. I started using this program for some of my other courses. I have tabs for my Gender and Women Studies and Communications courses which I use very regularly. I find it so much easier to pull out my laptop and just type away. It is so much faster than writing and I feel like I am able to pay attention to what my professors are saying because I do not spend as much time writing things down. It has become such a useful part of my education. I could not imagine starting my college career without it!

Viewing my notes on Evernote as a lasting resource will definitely affect how I participate in future classes. Being able to have all my notes conveniently in one place has been so cool! During second semester, I will keep adding different notebooks to my Evernote for my future classes. Having all my old notes to look back on will be an awesome tool to utilize throughout the rest of my schooling. It's like my own personal data base! I will now be able to go back to classes I took my freshman year as references for the future. I am so glad that I was introduced to this new program.

Although, I was not pleased with developing my Personal Knowledge Base. I could not imagine going through this class or the rest of my college career without things like Evernote or Zotero. A lot of people argue that technology is ineffective in classrooms today. However, if you download the right programs and utilize them correctly, then there can be many benefits to technology. For example, these new programs have helped me with sources for papers, organize my notes, and easily find videos, articles, and photos related to topics introduced in class. I will definitely be continuing to use my Personal Knowledge Base and know that it will help me in my future endeavors as a student! :)
